Overview

The interactive retail setup consists of three advanced stations that enhance the shopping experience for DUNI Outdoors. Customers can learn about products in an engaging way. We need to modify the stations to be suitable for a hypothetical outdoor clothing brand. Once we've created the new design, we will install the stations in the store and demonstrate how customers can use them.

The project encompasses several tasks, including creating captivating animations for the screens, designing the stations, adding special effects to the code, and producing videos for one of the stations. Additionally, we will take pictures of the clothing and models. I chose 'DUNI Outdoors' as our brand name to show thanks to nature for its endless beauty and fascinating details. Inspired by Colombia's Indigenous cultures, it reflects a deep love for the environment. Our goal is to motivate hikers to fully experience nature, discovering new trails and creating their own adventures. Our audience is stylish, adventurous young adults who adore outdoor activities like hiking, walking, biking, or camping, and who deeply value and respect nature.

My role was: designing the visual elements of the restaurant app, including layout, typography, color scheme, and overall aesthetic appeal. Consider accessibility principles to ensure that the app is usable by all individuals, including those with disabilities. Create wireframes and prototypes to visualize the app's structure and functionality.

Goals

The 'DUNI Outdoors' project is to create an interactive retail installation to enable the store to sell our apparel line. I intend to develop a visually appealing display to attract customers and encourage them to explore our merchandise. By integrating interactive features like touchscreens or motion sensors, the purpose is to enhance the shopping experience and create a memorable and enjoyable experience for outdoor enthusiasts. The installation will serve as a platform for showcasing our brand's essence and values, fostering a solid customer connection, and ultimately driving sales of our apparel line.

Challenges

As a UI designer for the DUNI Outdoors, several challenges arise:

  • Maximizing the use of space while ensuring a comfortable and inviting environment for customers.
  • Balancing the desire for interactivity with the need for simplicity and ease of use is crucial.
  • Maintaining consistency with the brand's visual identity and messaging across all elements of the installation, from signage to interactive displays.
  • Designing and implementing an interactive retail installation within a set time frame requires efficient project management and coordination of tasks.

Deliverables

  • Overall Presentation with a detailed concept proposal outlining the overall vision for the interactive retail installation.
  • Interactive prototypes demonstrating the functionality and user experience of key interactive elements.
  • Creation of content for the interactive installation, including product images, videos, informational text, and interactive media elements tailored to engage and inform customers.
  • Visual representations of the installation's design, including sketches, renderings, or digital mockups, to illustrate the layout, aesthetics, and branding elements.
  • Interactive Catalogue Station design and assets
  • Rotating Product Station design and assets.
  • Touchscreen ordering station design and assets.

The logo's concept draws inspiration from the indigenous people of Colombia's idea of Nature for the Sierra Nevada The Sierra Nevada is the symbol of the logo and holds immense cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance for them. They consider it the Heart of the World. The indigenous people use patterns that are rich in symbolism and cultural importance. In this design, the primary use is the depiction of mountains and rivers, reflecting their deep connection to the environment and the importance of these landscapes in their daily lives.

Interactive Catalogue Station

The station boasts three products and a large screen, which serves as a guide to the station's operations and showcases the latest products. As users approach, they are presented with a range of options including the opportunity to pick up a product, triggering the sensor to display related products on the screen. Additionally, they can press a button to learn more about the product. With three screens dedicated to products and another three for features, users are free to explore and discover all the station has to offer. Once users have finished exploring, they can put the product back and view more options. This interactive experience is strategically designed to engage and captivate users, ultimately fostering an interest in the brand

Rotating Product Station

The Rotating Product Station offers an unbeatable experience that enables users to explore a product from every angle, with a 360-degree view. The process starts with a thorough photoshoot of the backpack, capturing it from all perspectives to create a comprehensive view. A total of 24 shots are taken, and the photos are carefully edited and color-corrected to ensure optimal quality. Upon approaching the station, users encounter a looping screensaver video that showcases the product with succinct descriptions and instructions for interaction.

Users can rotate the product to reveal different angles by swiping their hand left or right in the air, approximately 6 inches above a Leap Motion controller. The station also includes four stop-point videos that feature schematic graphics that highlight the backpack's key features. At each stop point, users can swipe their hands upward to reveal the highlighted feature and downward to return, with four highlight videos available at each stop point. This station offer

Touchscreen Ordering Station

The touchscreen ordering station is an assertive and user-friendly kiosk that empowers customers to take charge of their shopping experience. Our photo shoot captured outdoor apparel for both men and women, resulting in three distinct sets of outfits for each gender. The images were meticulously edited, color-corrected, and divided into four parts to facilitate endless mix-and-match possibilities. As customers approach our kiosk, they are immediately captivated by an engaging fashion-themed motion graphic video that provides assertive and clear instructions on how to navigate the system. Once they touch the screen, they can confidently personalize their outfits by selecting different headgear, tops, bottoms, and footwear. After selecting the desired size and color for each item, they can quickly add them to their cart and proceed to checkout.

Once the checkout process is complete, a receipt is printed, and a clear and assertive animated screen guides customers on the next steps for payment at the cashier.
